From today, Renfe has toughened the anti-fraud measures for Avant travel cards to prevent their holders from using them inappropriately.
From now on, Avant services will not be able to formalise journeys for two or more consecutive trains in the same direction, as long as the difference between the departure times of the two trains is less than the journey time.
For example, to make two journeys on the same day between Madrid and Valladolid, the second train must leave the origin 3 h 24 min after the previous one.
Thus, if the first journey is made on the train leaving Chamartín at 10:15, the next train on which you can use the ticket is the one leaving at 14:38.
Cancellations with a minimum of 60 minutes in advance
If you have formalised a journey with your Avant pass and you are not going to travel, you must cancel the formalisation within 1 hour of the train’s departure. If you do not cancel it or you do so at least three times, you will lose the right to purchase new passes at a discount during the following 90 days.
Before losing this right, Renfe will inform you of the consequences when it detects the second violation of this rule.
If you lose your Avant due to a delay on other Renfe trains, Trainveling recommends that you file a complaint to try to prevent this loss from being included in this calculation.
